Michelle lives in the high country of north east Victoria, Australia where she is continually inspired by mountains, big skies and the simple complexity of nature.
Michelle has been making since she was a child. She grew up sitting at mum’s feet by the fire as she knitted, crawling around under dad’s feet in the workshop as he sculpted wood. Her favourite materials are small scraps of fabric, beads, and cotton, silk and woollen threads.
Her work is all completely stitched in the hand from new and old textiles. She uses tiny pieces salvaged from scraps of old family handkerchiefs, vintage cottons and laces, together with selected pieces of new fabric. Each piece is embellished with hand stitch, paper and beads.
