My home is near a river that has been mined and upturned; water-smoothed river stones are now scattered across the surrounding land, markers of the spent mines.
I have been picking up these displaced stones and creating embroidered robes for them. It feels like a small hug for the stone, an embrace, a comfort. Fancy dress for a rock.
I enjoy the process and challenge of shaping cloth to stone and the contrast between the harsh and the gentle.
